Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. But for a person with Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and family members, these were very natural traits. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed the business of Dublin as well as owned a part of the famous Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed playing sporting games in her youth and was a pro in athletics. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. It was evident when she was awarded each Feis in drama and theatre that Ireland had to offer. By age 14 she was invited to the prestigious Abbey Theater and pursued her dream of classical theater as well as operatic vocals.
